A mono voice clip can be placed toward the left or right of a stereo mix with a pan control. The change affects its playback position; it does not move the microphone that captured the room.
Use a simple practice clip
Listen at a comfortable level on a suitable stereo setup, move the pan control gently, then return it to the centre. Audacity’s audio-track documentation describes the track controls. Start with a mono clip because stereo-track behaviour can introduce additional details.
Separate mix position from recorded perspective
Moving a voice left does not remove the room reflections already recorded or make the microphone closer to the speaker. If the original recording sounds distant, panning is not a substitute for examining that recording problem.
For spoken programmes, judge placement against the intended listening experience rather than treating wide movement as an automatic improvement. Check the result on the delivery setup and follow any production requirements. Keep an untreated practice copy so you can compare the adjustment with what was actually captured.
